‘Everyone’s really committed to the job’
After completing my studies in Marketing Management/Sales I joined a temp agency as a recruiter. But I was actually more interested in the fast-moving world of property and since I was keen to study more, I decided to do a course in that area.
So I’m currently on the NVM SOM course, for one day a week. For the rest of the time I work as a Team Assistant at Jones Lang LaSalle in Amsterdam, in the Valuation Advisory Department. I work with three colleagues, assisting a team of 13 valuers. We’re responsible for arranging the valuation schedule, which covers the entire process from the initial assignment right through to sending out the invoice. I take care of client correspondence and contacts with local authorities about zoning plans. My work also involves preparing reports. Some of our jobs are one-off assignments, but we also work with portfolios that might include thirty or even a hundred properties, for example. It’s crucial that all the records are complete. I work with formulas in Excel to create accurate valuation spreadsheets. The work is enjoyable and very varied.
Jones Lang LaSalle offers a wide range of excellent opportunities for career development. It’s the perfect place to work if you want to learn a lot. I’m hoping to be promoted myself quite soon.
What’s especially good about this company is that we project a professional and businesslike image to the outside world – as befits a large, stable organisation - but at the same time the organisation in house is much less formal. It’s a young team who are fun to work with. Everyone’s really committed to the job.
